Saint Sarkis Sunday School
2007 - 2008

 Dear Parents,

The Saint Sarkis Sunday School has undergone a transformation over the summer that we are excited to share with you.  Evidence of this change is immediately noticeable as you walk down the Sunday School hall observing the new bulletin board decorations.  The changes are not cosmetic only!  We’d like to think that we have kept the best of the traditional Sunday School and just made things better:  Better in teaching our Armenian Apostolic faith and traditions as well as better in providing sound lessons in biblical fundamentals.

 So what’s new?

□    The core curriculum has been revamped to establish month by month class objectives based on the “We Believe” program supported by the David Cook  curriculum for all grades!

Revamping the curriculum has provided the opportunity to develop consistent teaching objectives from class to class: Pre-K through the Youth group.

New bibles for the entire Sunday School.  Grades 1-4 will use the “Kids Adventure Bible NIrV (targeted for students ages 6-10 years old) and the older grades will use the NIV Life Application Bible which is an adult study bible combining cross reference notes with historical and life application commentary.

Sharagans will be taught on a weekly basis from 12:05 to 12:30 PM in the Church Hall.  The students will be dismissed from the Church Hall and handouts will be distributed upon dismissal.

The 9th and 10th grade have been split up into two separate classes.  The 9th grade will continue with the “We Believe” and David Cook format with Sunday School meeting each week.  The 10th grade Youth Group will be expanded  for the next two years to include the combined 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

Youth Group Students will be provided two weeks of class work per month and two weeks of community service each month as well.  At the end of the year, each student will receive a certificate documenting hours served toward high school community service graduation requirements.  Community service activities can include, but are not limited to: Church Ushering, working with the Board of Trustees in the Church Office, teaching special lessons to or performing puppet shows for the younger students, visiting other Churches, etc.

The Sunday School program this year is structured with hands on learning activities as well as opportunities to apply lessons learned in each class.  For this reason, the Sunday School staff has made a commitment to be ready to go in the classrooms at 10:30 AM sharp.  We ask that all Sunday School families make the same commitment to a 10:30 AM start time so that students and teacher’s can stay focused on the lesson being taught.

If there are transportation concerns that make 10:30 AM difficult for a particular family on a particular day, the Sunday School will be glad to serve as a ride-share facilitator between households.  Please contact me to discuss your needs.

The Sunday School staff would like to thank you for your continuing support and volunteer contributions to the St. Sarkis Sunday School over the years.  The program this year will be a challenge to us and your continued support, volunteer contributions, and understanding is appreciated as we shoot for the stars!
